Our Story
Ekdahl started in the wide-open spaces of West Texas. Ed Ekdahl started Ekdahl Real Estate in 1980, to support the Ekdahl family’s cotton operation in Jones County. Ed got his hands first in real estate through managing farm and ranch loans, and then as certified and licensed appraiser.
“I love to spend all day driving over a piece of land seeing just what it has to offer,” Ed said in a Stamford American Newspaper article form the 1980’s. He admitted the hard part comes when he has to sit at his desk to do the paper work part of the appraisal.
As the business grew, real estate became Ed's primary career, where he continued doing appraisals but mainly sold farm and ranch properties.
In 1985, he moved his office from his home to town on the south side of the square in the old Humphrey Building, and then 1991 to where the office is currently located in Stamford.
In 1996, his son John started his real estate career as a sales agent for Ekdahl Real Estate after graduating from Texas A&M University. Over the years, John helped grow the business recruiting several agents and obtaining his broker’s license.
Ed decided to hang up his spurs and retire in 2007. John then took over the reigns as the owner of Ekdahl Real Estate.
After running the business for over 10 years, John grew Ekdahl Real Estate even more by opening an additional office in Anson, Texas to support the business’ growing team of agents.
To continue to serve West Texas, Ekdahl grew north opening an office in Rotan with established agent Rory Burroughs.
In 2019, John bought Nelson Farm & Ranch Properties, headquartered out of Abilene, Texas, from longtime West Texas real estate professional A.E. “Butch” Nelson.
