History: California Creek rises in Fisher County and runs in a northeasterly direction for seventy miles, across northern Jones County to its mouth on Paint Creek. It is spring fed and runs water most of the year. Soldiers stationed at Fort Phantom Hill in 1850 noted Comanche, Tonkawa, and Wichita Indians in this area of Jones County, and the spring fed creek was an important source of water for them and the large herds of buffalo which roamed the grass prairie.

Acreage: 220 total acres with approximately 50 acres in native pasture with hackberry, elm, chinaberry, mesquite, agarita and other native brush species. Approximately 170 acres in cultivation.

Water: California Creek runs through the center portion of the property in a west to easterly flow and will provide water for cattle and wildlife. There was an old hand dug well on the east side of the property. Rural water supply lines are also in the area.

Improvements: Partial perimeter fencing.

Topography: Soils are composed mainly of Spur Loam, which are excellent soils for cotton or any other locally grown crops. The topography is mainly level.

Hunting: The creek and thick groves of native trees and brush provide a natural habitat and corridor for wildlife. Whitetail deer, turkey, quail, dove, feral hogs, and varmints are plentiful in the area. Fishing should be good with several deep holes of water along the creek.
